Sweets for Your Sweetie

Valentine’s Day would not be complete without those sugary treats we look forward to each year. If your lover loves donuts, Tastease Mini Donut on New Park Avenue is a must visit. If cookies are more your style, The Kitchen Hartford is offering cookie decorating kits that are perfect for an at-home date night or something the whole family can enjoy. Bloom Bake Shop is offering a full Valentine’s Day menu, featuring cookie platters, tortes, cakes, and scones. And, as we mentioned in our South End Guide, Mozzicato DePasquale and Modern Pastry Shop are walking distance from one another on Franklin Ave—grab your date, and put each shop’s cannolis to the test.

Gifts They’ll Go Gaga Over

It’s easy to find Valentine’s Day classics in our little city. Hartford Prints! has the whole holiday covered, from cards, to candy, to bath bombs and baking kits and candles. If you’re searching for flowers, look no further than DeVars Phillips Florist on Sisson Avenue in the West End, or House of Flora on New Britain Avenue in the South West. Both businesses are family-owned and operated, and have been in business since as early as 1974.

Date Night Dining

Hartford’s restaurants are pulling out the stops for Valentine’s Day. Here are some of our favorites that are offering specialty menus:

Downtown

  • Trumbull Kitchen—TK is celebrating Valentine’s Day all weekend long. During dinner on Saturday and Sunday night, they’re featuring a Steak Dinner for two, with two sides and a free bottle of MAX Cuvee Napa Red Blend, all for $69.95 (menu information is here). They are also hosting a Valentine’s Brunch on Sunday, February 13th from 11:30am–2:00pm. With six different entree options and carafes of Bloody Marys and Mimosas, how could you go wrong? You can view the full brunch menu here.

South End

  • First & Last Tavern Hartford—The original First & Last Tavern is offering a Valentine’s dinner from Friday the 11th to Monday the 14th. Their head chef Tommy has cooked up a menu with options ranging from Maine Lobster Bisque and an Orange Salad, to Beef Tenderloin and Roasted Salmon. Don’t forget to top it all off with a classic tiramisu! To make a reservation and hear the whole menu, call the restaurant at 860-956-6000.

North End

  • The Tavern at Keney Park—The Tavern at Keney Park is taking reservations for a $60 prix fixe menu for two on Monday, February 14th. The menu features one appetizer, two entrees, one dessert, along with a complimentary champagne toast, house salad, and bread—if that’s not a Valentine’s Day deal, we don’t know what is! Click here for the menu and information on making a reservation.

West End

  • The Half Door—While The Half Door isn’t featuring a Valentine’s Day menu, they are adding new food items to their standard tavern menu, making it the perfect place to have a Valentine’s Day dinner that will warm the soul. Irish Braised Pork Belly and Crispy Brussel Sprouts are just two of their newest additions, and you can always count on them to pour one of the best Guinness’ in town. Why not top it off with a pickle back shot while you’re at it? Check out all of their new menu items here.

Love is in the air here in Hartford! However you choose to celebrate, don’t forget to tag @experiencehartford in your photos.
