Hartford has some of the best soul food in Connecticut. Whether you’re looking for fried chicken or drool-worthy mac and cheese, there’s a soul food spot for everyone. Here are some of the best soul food restaurants to visit in the city.

‍

Everything’s better in a bowl at Soul Bowls! New to the city this year, the Soul Bowls team wasted no time when it came to creating buzz around the city. Hughann Thomas, Willie Fair, and Malik Golden have the perfect mix of talent and insight to make Soul Bowls both authentic and unique.

If you consider checking out Soul Bowls, try one of their infamous bowl meals. You can choose white or soul rice, proteins, and two sides. This restaurant is takeout only—perfect for those nights when you don't want to cook dinner or grab lunch on the go!

‍

Sink your teeth into award-winning bar-b-que and southern cooking at Black-Eyed Sally’s! Located Downtown, this spot is perfect for experiencing true Southern hospitality before a game or catching up with some friends.

Sally’s is family-owned and operated. From the moment you walk through the doors, you are surrounded by tin walls, old wooden floors, and true Southern folk art. Check out their live music and reserve a table today!

‍

Hot Pots

2374 Main Street, North End

A city favorite, Hot Pots is a strictly takeout and catering-only restaurant. Once they sell out for the day, they close. Hot Pots attracts both long-time residents and those from out of town. On weekdays, people often pick up their food and eat it in the lot during lunch. On Sundays, you will catch a crowd lined up around the block, ready to pick up catering orders for family dinner after church. You can check out their menu here.
